This memory was shared by Kathy Hurst, who found a lasting connection to North Myrtle Beach during her retirement years.
Captain Sterling Grey:
Some places welcome you once…
and somehow never let go.
After retiring from Michigan, Kathy and her husband began spending their winters along the oceanfront of North Myrtle Beach — walking the shore, collecting shark teeth, and falling asleep to the sound of the waves.
It became their piece of heaven on earth.
After her husband passed in 2015, Kathy returned the following winter, unsure if the place would feel the same without him.
But the beach was still there.
The memories were still there.
And little by little, North Myrtle Beach continued to fill her heart — through quiet walks, familiar comforts, and the simple joys that mark the passing of the seasons.
Today, it remains her home away from home… and a place she returns to year after year.
